Hearts & Minds

Hearts & Minds is a collection of songs that go in a slightly different direction from my typical work. First, they are a little heavier-sounding. And the lyrics are a little darker and more overtly political. The EP begins and ends with short instrumental pieces that serve as a matching set of bookends.
“Think About It” takes its inspiration from the Swedish pop trio Dirty Loops, with their intricate parts and strong 80s vibe. My lyrics here are more stark, though, focused on the cynicism and shamelessness of political life. “Hearts & Minds” is inspired by London-based singer-songwriter Nilüfer Yanya’s guitar-driven songs over gritty drum loops. The lyrics are a bit overwhelming for our overwhelming times. “Howling at the Moon” is my attempt at an emo, electro-rock take on paralysis in a crisis. “Your Love Is Holding Me Together” is a melancholy, synth-driven track reminiscent of Lo Moon or maybe CHVRCHES, and a reminder that we have good people in our lives even when times are tough.
